Executive Summary

CAFCASS expanded heavily and needed a support system that could accommodate all of their new locations. Dataphone helped to amalgamate some of the branch offices by utilising their existing systems to create a new one, with one point of contact for all their telecom needs.


CAFCASS opened a succession of new offices in England and Wales, and also took over a number of former Probation Service offices that were equipped with various different systems. They wanted a cost effective and uniform communications platform throughout its offices all supported by one supplier. They were particularly concerned about a supplier’s ability to support systems as far away as the Isle of Wight, Truro, Newcastle and Aberystwyth.

Dataphone’s Solution 

CAFCASS chose Dataphone because we were able to implement easy-to-manage and uniform 75 telephone systems with one point of contact. The fact that each telephone system was uniform no matter what the location meant that staff working at different sites didn’t need to learn to use a different one. We logistically and effectively reused existing components and implemented extra equipment and services. To ensure the continuity of service while they moved offices, we put in place temporary telephone systems that enabled staff to keep working as normal.

Results, Return on Investment and Future Plans 

The result of this was multi-point answering, voice-mail integration and other useful system features that helped CAFCASS personnel handle their calls effectively. The service we provided saved CAFCASS a significant amount of money over the years, as well ensuring continuity of service. Money was also saved through our set up of “hot-desking” extensions that resulted in less telephone equipment being needed and in turn saved money renting smaller offices. Throughout our 7 year partnership with CAFCASS we have installed 75 systems in that time and haven’t received one single complaint.
